Docs in a Pod presented by WellMed

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 42% of adults over the age of 20 are obese. On Docs in a Pod this week, we host Bryan Roy, ARNP (WellMed at Dr. Phillips). Listen in as he discusses the obesity epidemic with co-hosts Ron Aaron and Dr. Tamika Perry (WellMed at Redbird Square).

COVID-19 Update

Southwest Orlando Family Medicine continues to endorse all eligible patients to receive any version of the COVID-19 vaccine and COVID-19 booster currently available. With the spread of the highly contagious variants, vaccination is more important than ever. While treatment options for COVID-19 have improved, vaccination is still the best method at preventing severe illness and death. For those who have been fully vaccinated, booster shots are recommended. For more information, please visit our COVID-19 Vaccine and COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Advisory sections. Read more from the CDC here.

The CDC website classifies local community transmission risks on their website. As a general guideline, when COVID-19 positivity rates exceed 10% locally, patients should adhere to the following:

  • High-risk vaccinated individuals should continue masking in public indoor settings and crowded outdoor settings
  • Low-risk vaccinated individuals should continue masking in public indoor settings and consider masking and/or distancing in crowded outdoor settings
  • Unvaccinated individuals should continue masking and distancing, and get vaccinated

Consider your risk when it comes to exposure to COVID-19 by asking yourself the following questions:

  1. Where am I going? (indoors/outdoors)
  2. Who am I with? (vaccinated/unvaccinated)
  3. Am I at high-risk for severe illness? (age, chronic health conditions, diabetes, heart and lung disease, obesity)
  4. Do I live with or plan to see loved ones who are considered high risk?

Wearing a mask is most important if you have a weakened immune system or if you are at increased risk for severe disease. If someone in your household has a weakened immune system, is at increased risk for severe disease, or is unvaccinated, continuous mask usage is recommended. If this applies to you or your household, you might choose to wear a mask regardless of the level of transmission in your area. – CDC
