Papsure is a cervical screening exam that has two parts. The first part is the traditional Pap smear. The second part is a different kind of screening technique that provides your physician with an improved view of your cervix. Together, the two parts dramatically increase the overall sensitivity of the cervical screening.
Why PapSure is Important
- The Pap smear test relies on loose surface cells that are collected for testing. Many studies have shown that the Pap smear test can fail to detect up to 50% of cervical abnormalities. For this reason, a high percentage of the apporximately 13,000 women diagnosed with cervical cancer this year will have had a Pap smear that failed to detect potential problems.
- The PapSure direct visual exam helps your physician better find abnormalities, including cervical cancer, that may have been missed by a Pap smear. Early detection means early treatment. Cervical cancer becomes increasingly more difficult to treat if it continues to progress undetected.
